Homemade plum jam
I am a fruit lover. I love almost all fruits except guava which, I frankly think is not a fruit anyway and pawpaw. Right now mangoes and plums are in season and we thought why not attempt to make some homemade plum jam. The results were pretty awesome and not for a first attempt, I can immodestly and honestly say, it’s the best jam I ever tasted. The whole process took just under two hours.
In case you’d like to make your own, here’s the process below *recipe words by Mr. Man*:
Homemade Plum Jam Recipe
- Plums – 5 cups after pitting(removing seeds) then dicing
- Sugar – 3 cups
- Water – 1 Cup
- Orange juice – 3 tablespoons
- Butter – 1/2 teaspoon
- Pit the plums. This may be a bit tedious, ask for help if possible.
- Dice the plums. You can choose to slightly blend the halves. I didn’t.
- In a pan/sufuria with a thick bottom, pour in the plums, sugar, water and the orange juice.
- Mix well until the sugar dissolves.
- Put the pan on the stove on medium heat
- After about 10-15 mins it’ll start boiling and forming. The butter helps to reduce the form. If you are going to cover, leave a slight space for air.
- Keep stirring every few mins to avoid the jam sticking to the pan and burning.
- Leave on heat for about an hour or until you notice the jam has reduced and thickened.
- Test if the jam has set by scooping a spoonful of it to a plate, let it cool. Once cooled down, tilt slightly the plate and if runny let it boil for another 5 mins then test again. If not runny the jam is ready.
